The most surprising thing for me when I first came to the United States is the lack of safety. Particularly in Los Angeles, it's a car-centric society here, and showing off luxury brands increases the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime. Of course, in the rich areas and tourist spots where there's a lot of foot traffic, you'll often see people have their designer items. However, in the suburbs and less touristy areas, there are fewer people on the streets. It's common to hear stories about that people having their Louis Vuitton bags stolen while they park their cars and walk to the store.

Even if you drive an expensive car, if you park it on the street, your windows can be smashed, or your vehicle can be scratched with a key. I know someone whose foldable bike was stolen from their car, and when they reported it to the police, they were told that it's their own fault for keeping valuable items in the car. Living in the United States can be wild, indeed.

That's why it's best to leave behind the need for appearances and luxury. To live in a city like this, I've learned to let go of extravagance and carry only the essentials, even when it comes to my car. Saying goodbye to luxury and embracing a simpler lifestyle is the most significant way to save money.
